Influencer. Influencer. Influencer. You’ve seen this over 400,000 times on your timeline and if you’re anything like me you love to take a deep dive into words. In this article, I’m going to provide you valuable information on what an influencer does and how it impacts this generation.

If you want to be an influencer we’ll also go through some easy steps as well, because 9/10 you’re probably already doing it.

So, what is an influencer? The Webster definition of an Influencer is a person who inspires or guides the actions of others. Now through our actions of reposting, re-tweeting or even posting our own opinions we’re all influencers, but there is a difference between a micro and macro influencer.

According to Forbes, a micro-influencer is someone with accounts with anywhere from 10,000-50,000 followers and macro-influencers have accounts with 500,000-1 million followers.

Now, my largest following is my LinkedIn Account with currently over 8,100 followers and my Organic Facebook Community with over 5,0000. Technically, I’m a “micro-influencer,” but your reach can also determine how many people you influence on a consistent basis.

An influencer in this generation has impact on the way people think, what people purchase and what people post. I believe the biggest impact, relates to the influencer economy. “The market grew from $1.7 billion in 2016 to $9.7 billion in 2020. In 2021, it soared to $13.8 billion, indicating a steady growth. In 2022, the market is projected to expand to a whopping $16.4 billion industry,” per IFH.

According to the Influencer Marketing Hub

Instagram is the Preferred Social Media Channel for Brands Who Engage in Influencer Marketing Although Instagram saw a slight decrease in use in 2020, its popularity increased in 2021, with the majority of brands choosing Instagram as their preferred channel for their influencer marketing campaigns, despite it having less monthly active users (1.3 billion) than Facebook, which is one of the most popular channels with (2.89 billion) monthly active users.

You can become an Influencer in the following ways:

  • Become a thought leader in a specific area
  • Grow a following of 5,000 more on a particular platform
  • Host Live Q&A’s on a Specific Topic
  • Collaborate with currently influencers in your market

You can become an influencer with two words: posting and consistency. You will have people who are interested in your content and also believe in what you do.
