In a world of unlimited possibilities and emerging technologies, the creation of AI applications such as ChatGPT has opened up a new realm of possibilities for users across many industries.
Since its inception in 2022, we have witnessed the endless creative possibilities it has from automated writings, web developments, business creations, cost reduction strategies and much more. The capabilities ChatGPT software has introduced to the world is truly undeniable.
ChatGPT is a natural language processing tool driven by AI technology that allows you to have human-like conversations and much more with a chatbot.
While users excitingly enjoy the ChatGPT technology and all it has to offer, there’s still one question that needs to be answered …, “Is ChatGPT unbiased, equitable and inclusive in all the features and answers it provides?”
Well, one LinkedIn user by the name of Erin Reddick doesn’t quite think so, and she plans to do something about it.
Reddick, is a young black engineer, AI developer, program manager, plus professional who has held jobs at Meta, Microsoft, AWS, plus Facebook; and is now the first person to develop an AI software that gives a prospective from a black/ African American point of view.
Reddick’s invention is the first of its kind, and will be a welcomed addition to not only the ChatGPT application series, but also the black plus African American communities.
Inventions like Chat Black GPT gives the black community the same leverage as other AI technologies, and simultaneously make sure black users voices plus opinions are heard from their perspectives.
The 1st GPT designed based on Black American perspective?
Although ChatBlackGPT is still in the beta phase, Reddick has been very proud and vocal about her innovation, and she recently took to LinkedIn to say this …
“As a black woman, I am not free to immediately consume new technology without caution. AI appeared to be promising and chatGPT quickly caught my attention, yet It did not take more than an hour to start finding articles about how AI is racist. Seriously, YAWN 🥱
👩🏾💻That didn’t scare me, I became a certified ChatGPT Expert and Prompt Engineer anyway. Exploring and experimenting with AI technology has opened up my imagination, but the black community and tech have a strained relationship at best and new technology working against us-was not acceptable.
“😱On November 6th, OpenAI announced personalized artificial intelligence “apps”. I immediately thought about ways to make AI a safer space to explore and learn. “why not develop a GPT that speaks from a culturally aware perspective of black America?”… I began carefully designing the back end configuration of what became the newly founded “ChatBlackGPT”.
📍In summary by part “This chatGPT produces data, insights and perspectives from black, african american and african information sources only. It answers from a Black perspective, adopting a response style that reflects cultural awareness, sensitivity, and respect…”
😳 I was blown away by the differences my unique configuration was able to produce. For example, I asked the question “What is a Micro-aggression?”
⚠️“ChatGPT 4” answered: “A microaggression is a term used to describe subtle, often unintentional, actions or comments that can be hurtful or offensive to individuals, typically those belonging to a marginalized group. These actions or remarks are often rooted in stereotypes or biases, and while they may not be overtly discriminatory or aggressive, they can have a cumulative, negative impact on the recipients…”
✅ “ChatBlackGPT” answered: “A “micro-aggression” is a term that’s particularly relevant in discussions about race and social interactions, especially in the context of the Black experience. Coined by psychiatrist Dr.Chester M. Pierce in the 1970s, the term originally described subtle verbal and non-verbal insults directed at African Americans, often automatically or unconsciously.
Micro-aggressions can take various forms. They might be comments, gestures, or actions that, intentionally or unintentionally, convey hostile, derogatory, or negative racial slights and insults…”
🥹It’s amazing, refreshing and I am totally proud of what I have started developing. My goal is to continue calibrating my configuration to ultimately serve as a top resource for insight from a black American perspective on topics and current events. I wish to collaborate with my community to update datasets accordingly and progress together. These are exciting times!
🌍 AI IS FOR EVERYONE! hashtagChatBlackGPT ”
