Ed Sheeran became emotional onstage Saturday night as he finally addressed the controversy surrounding Macklemore’s removal from his Loop Tour.
Performing at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on September 19, Sheeran opened the concert with an unusually personal statement, acknowledging that the previous week had placed him at the center of an intense public debate.
“I am making mistakes, and I’m so, so sorry,” Sheeran told the crowd while discussing the decisions surrounding the tour.
How the Controversy Started
The situation began after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks while appearing as an opening act during a September tour stop.
According to Reuters, Macklemore was later removed from the tour after venue owners objected to the comments. Other supporting acts subsequently withdrew from Sheeran’s tour in solidarity with Macklemore.
