Blaise not only manages stations but also dedicates time to mentor and support aspiring journalists, actively participating in events like NABJ, NAHJ, and ONA. Sinclair, with its 185 television stations spanning 86 markets, plays a significant role in shaping the media landscape from Washington, D.C., to smaller communities like Ottumwa, Iowa/Kirksville, Missouri.
We asked Blaise what would you like to see for the future of journalism?
“One of the tenements of journalism is “give a voice to the voiceless”. All too often it is people of color whose voices are ignored and at times misrepresented. As a journalist who happens to be African American it is important for me to ensure all voices are heard and every one’s story is told.
It is important as journalists of color not to follow the narratives but speak truth to power and provide context so our consumers can make informed and educated decisions. This way the stereotypes die and we can help to shape our communities positively.”
With a remarkable 20+ years in various newsrooms nationwide, Blaise has expertly managed websites, witnessing growth in page views and unique users annually. Leading newsrooms with over 80 professionals, Blaise boasts 9+ years of experience guiding stations in top 50 markets, achieving the distinction of having one station claim the number one late newscast in the country.
