As the first woman and first Black woman to hold the position of News Director at WDAM in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Galean’s journey is marked by a relentless pursuit of excellence. Described as a bold and firm yet fair leader, she brings organizational and strategic planning expertise to the forefront, both in journalism and as a member of the International Media Relations & Production Committee for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, Galean’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Master of Public Administration degrees from Belhaven University. Her commitment to education extends to her role as an adjunct professor at Jackson State University’s School of Journalism and Media Studies, where she shares her knowledge and experience with aspiring journalists.

Active in numerous professional associations, Galean is a member of the Beta Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the NABJ South Florida Chapter. Her contributions to the field have been recognized through awards such as the NABJ Leadership Grant and her selection as a 2018 Carole Kneeland Fellow.
Beyond her professional accolades, Galean is dedicated to making a difference in her community and beyond. She serves as a board member for Catch the Wave of Hope, advocating for awareness about child exploitation and human trafficking. Additionally, as a board member for RTDNA representing Region 13, she champions ethical journalism practices.
In her personal life, Galean finds partnership and support in her husband, Tracey James, who shares her passion for journalism. Together, they embody a commitment to excellence and a determination to make a positive impact in the world.
